Voting on Decent
Voting is essential for DAOs, enabling stakeholders to collectively make decisions. But with different types of voting required for different decisions, keeping track can quickly become overwhelming.
Decent simplifies governance, integrating both onchain and offchain voting into a single, streamlined platform.
Onchain Voting
For governance decisions that require token approval, onchain voting is essential. Decent supports voting with ERC-20, ERC-721, and ERC-1155 tokens, including NFT-based voting where weights can be adjusted based on the NFT collection.
How it Works
To set up token voting, Decent implements a Safe module enabling token holders to submit and vote on proposals. In a truly decentralized fashion, this kind of Safe has no signers. So when a proposal passes, all relevant transaction executions happen via the Safe module contract.
Token voting can also be set up on any child Safes within your DAO. In this case, Decent attaches a Safe Guard contract that makes it possible to freeze the child Safe, the same as with multisigs.
Offchain Voting
For decisions that don’t require onchain execution, such as social or cultural decisions, offchain voting is ideal. Decent allows you to connect a Snapshot Space to your DAO, making it easy to view and vote on both offchain and onchain proposals in one place.
Multisig Voting
Multisig governance empowers DAOs to delegate authority to working groups. In Decent, a multisig Safe under a DAO or subDAO functions like the main treasury and can link to Snapshot for additional transparency.
Added Security
With Decent’s Safe Guard Contract, the parent Safe can freeze child Safes if needed, adding a layer of security to multisig setups.
Intuitive Interface
Voting for DAO members is simple and straightforward. Real-time updates and an intuitive, mobile-friendly interface keeps members engaged and informed. For the best mobile experience, we recommend using the Coinbase Wallet.
Delegating Votes
In larger DAOs with many proposals, delegating votes can help you stay engaged without needing to vote on every issue personally.
Simple Steps to Delegate
- Go to your DAO Safe’s proposal page.
- Enter the wallet address you want to delegate to.
- Select “Delegate Voting Tokens”.
This initiates the transaction to delegate voting tokens, which remain in the custody of the holder even when delegated.
Proposal Notifications
With so many proposals circulating, keeping up can lead to burnout. Decent’s Telegram bot simplifies governance by sending reminders when proposals are posted on Decent and Snapshot. You can turn off notifications after voting, reducing unnecessary alerts.
Unlocking more with AI
In the future, this bot will do more than just remind. With AI capabilities, it will summarize proposals, assist in drafting new ones, and even automate voting based on your preferences.
